Each Friday evening as the sun is setting on the rolling hills of Jerusalem, families all over the city are sitting down to enjoy their home-cooked Shabbat meals with family and friends. Tourists who visit Jerusalem often visit the Western Wall at this time, marveling in the unique beauty of the people collectively and eagerly welcoming the day of rest. Often times, since the city shuts down for 24 hours, visitors will spend the evening walking around and eventually making their ways back to a hotel to enjoy a quiet and uneventful night.

The one-of-a-kind Shabbat of a Lifetime program was started in order to offer incoming tourists of all backgrounds an alternative: the opportunity to connect to locals and Jewish culture for an authentic Shabbat experience. Travelers are invited to join an Israeli family in their home for a delicious, five course meal showcasing traditional Jewish foods from the diaspora. The experience covers all the Shabbat essentials – singing songs, explanations about the rich and ancient traditions and prayers, an abundant menu featuring Jewish foods from around the world, and great conversation made up of the hosts and their international guests.  Travelers are able to enjoy the personal atmosphere, learn about the practices first hand, and encounter the culture in a completely unique and unforgettable way.

In past four years, over 20000 guests from 86 countries and every and all background have been hosted by the Shabbat of a Lifetime team of host families and it has been an amazing experience for both hosts and guests alike.
